CROFTON, MD — On Oct. 6, the Crofton Civic Association mailed ballots to all property owners residing in the CCA's tax district to obtain their opinion about the purchase of a 7-acre parcel of land known as the "enclave property" located at Crofton's front entrance. According to Crofton Town Hall, a deadline was set of Oct. 16 for turning in ballots, but numerous residents reported never receiving theirs by mail. The deadline to vote was extended to Oct. 23, but ballots still trickled in past that date and a definitive vote of 50 percent plus one either for or against the purchase wasn't obtained. Crofton officials have spoke with the Anne Arundel County Executive's office, which informed them that there is no deadline requirement by the county for this type of vote and "we are welcome to take as much time as is needed to achieve a definitive vote." The CCA's board of directors has decided to continue accepting verified ballots until a definitive vote, either for or against the purchase, is attained. "We encourage those who have already voted to reach out to your neighbors and let them know that there is still time for their vote to count," the directors shared on the town's website.
