PORT CHESTER, NY — A missing 4-year-old is safe at home thanks in part to the quick thinking and compassion of the mayor. Police said they received a frantic 911 call from a family around 7 p.m., reporting that their 4-year-old son was missing. Port Chester police immediately started searching the home and nearby areas for the child who disappeared. As police were mounting a search, Mayor Marino was on his way down Westchester Ave., when he saw a little boy alone, running across the busy road. Marino caught up to the small child and was able to calm him down. The mayor waited with the child until his parents and Port Chester PD could arrive. Police said the incident appears to be an unlucky mishap and are crediting Marino with helping to prevent a tragic outcome. "Before we start with the comments of parents should be more careful, accidents happen, unfortunately," PCPD said in a social media post praising Marino's level-headed reaction to fraught circumstances. "Thanks to the Mayor and maybe some luck from above, this turned out ok."
