Description

MARYLAND — To help support students learning from home this fall, the Y has developed Y Academic Support Centers located in 18 public schools and some Y centers in Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard counties, with more locations expected to be added. Y Academic Support Centers will serve students ages 5 to 12 and was developed after receiving parental input. Y Academic Support Centers have trained in-synchronous learning support designed to help students successfully navigate their virtual schoolwork. Students will bring laptops to the Y Academic Support Centers and log into their classroom teacher-led virtual lesson. They will be supported in person by Y associates to help ensure they understand their lessons and can navigate the technology. Flexible schedules are offered including full day and half day weeks, as well as single day options. The day begins at 7 a.m. and a full day runs until 6 p.m. A half day runs from 7 a.m. to noon or 1 p.m to 6 p.m. Safety measures to be taken include daily temperature checks, frequent hand washing, mask use among students and Y associates, social distancing, enhanced cleaning protocols and more. No more than 13 students will be in a group and no more than 26 to 52 students depending upon the site. All sites are licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education
