HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Howard County Executive Calvin Ball will host the 5th annual Toys for Tots Giveaway this Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Long Reach Village Center in Columbia. Last minute donations can be brought to the George Howard Building in Ellicott City before noon Friday. People also can make monetary donations online at www.toysfortots.org. "For five years, Toys for Tots has provided free toys to thousands of children in Howard County. We are grateful for our Marines who started this important initiative to help every child feel special this holiday season," Ball said in a statement. "This year especially, the need to spread joy and support our families in need is so important. I'm thankful for everyone who contributed, donated and volunteered this year - a testament that Howard County believes in fostering a better community for all and that together we can create a merrier holiday for our neighbors in need." Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the toy distribution will be drive-thru only and families who registered in advance will need their family ID in order to pick up their toys. More than 900 families registered to receive gifts for their children.
