April is Fair Housing Month, which celebrates the passage of the federal Fair Housing Act in 1968.
The Fair Housing Act protects people from discrimination when they are renting or buying a home, getting a mortgage, seeking housing assistance, or engaging in other housing-related activities.
It prohibits discrimination in housing because of:
Race Color National Origin Religion Sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation) Familial Status Disability Massachusetts also prohibits discrimination against people who receive government assistance such as rental vouchers.
