HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Individuals knowledgeable about pension administration and funding are being sought to serve on Howard County's pension oversight commission. The deadline to apply is Oct. 30. "The pension oversight commission provides critical analysis and input on the county's retirement plan and the police and fire employees' retirement plan," Howard County Executive Calvin Ball said. "If you are a Howard County resident with experience with pensions, I encourage you to apply and lend your expertise to this commission. Together, we can ensure all our employees have a secure and stable retirement plan." Comprised of five members, commission members submit an annual report to the County Executive and the County Council regarding the status of the county's retirement plan and the police and fire employees' retirement plan. Members also review and make recommendations to County Executive and the County Council on any proposed amendments to the County Code Section 1.482. Commission members serve five-year terms. To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be a Howard County resident, 18 years of age or older and cannot hold an elective or appointed office with the county or the state of Maryland, be participants in any retirement plan offered by the county and/or have any involvement with any company who does business with a retirement plan offered by the county. Candidates also must be able to attend the commission's meetings, which are held as needed. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, meetings are currently taking place virtually via WebEx. Applicants should send a resume and brief letter explaining why they want to serve on the commission to Kimberly Pruim either by email to [email protected] or by mail to: Howard County Government, Office of the County Executive, Attn: Kimberly Pruim, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City, MD 21043.
