MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A three-alarm fire on Saturday blazed through a home in Trenton, killing twins and injuring firefighters, the City said. At 6:53 p.m., the Trenton Fire Department responded to a three-alarm fire at 834 Carteret Avenue. Two residents managed to evacuate the building. The brothers, 20, were trapped on the third floor, according to reports. Four firefighters were injured and taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center. One firefighter sustained burns and three sustained injuries due to structure collapse, officials said. Their conditions were stable at the time of transport, according to Trenton Fire Director Kenneth M. Douglas. "I am praying for this family who lost two sons tonight. This is heartbreaking, and we will do everything we can to support to get through this," Mayor W. Reed Gusciora, who was at the scene of the fire, said in a statement. The identities of the twins have not been released, but according to 3CBS Philly, the boys were on the spectrum. June Davis, identified as the owner of the property by 6ABC told the station, "Every bone in my body is hurt right now for those kids." The Red Cross New Jersey was assisting nine people from four families with temporary lodging, food and clothing. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, according to officials. County and state officials are assisting, as are members of Trenton's police, health, and inspections departments, City officials said. Thank you for reading. Have a correction or news tip?
