PRINCETON, NJ — With the Witherspoon street redesign work in progress, many trees are being cut and new ones planted. Do you want to plant a tree in Princeton? This is your chance. Free seedlings will soon be available in the area. Every year, the state makes free seedlings available throughout New Jersey in an effort to help New Jersey's tree line recover after significant losses from Superstorm Sandy. The seedling giveaways occur around Arbor Day, which is on April 29 this year. A seedling giveaway will take place at noon on April 23 at Witherspoon Street during the April ARTS Event. Click here for all seedling-pickup locations and instructions on planting them. The Arbor Day Foundation has been working to bring back New Jersey's tree line since the 2012 superstorm. The New Jersey Tree Recovery campaign partners the foundation with the New Jersey Forest Service. The partnership has distributed over 300,000 trees, but many more are still needed, according to the Arbor Day Foundation.
