Remembrance Trees, Event Honors Those Affected By COVID-19

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The Howard County Library System and the Initiative for Latin American Community Engagement are teaming up to honor those who have passed away and those who are struggling near and far due to the coronavirus pandemic. This memorial consists of two parts. The remembrance trees is a community memorial project running through Dec. 21. Remembering Together is a virtual community event on Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. Remembrance Trees By Dec. 21, hang a message on the themes of remembrance, connection and hope on one of the remembrance trees at any HCLS branch. Write a message on ribbon or fabric that you have at home. If you do not have ribbon or fabric, come to any HCLS branch to obtain a ribbon or fabric from the lobby (face coverings required). Tie your ribbon in the designated remembrance tree outside the branch. Can't tie your ribbon? Drop it in a box in the designated area to be hung by HCLS staff after a brief quarantine. Prefer to stay home? Email a short (10 words or less) message on the themes of remembrance, connection and hope to [email protected] and designate a branch location if you wish or call your local branch and share your message via phone. Staff will write and hang a ribbon for you at that branch's remembrance tree. Messages in all languages welcome. Remembering Together Come together with others in your community on the longest night of a challenging year. This event strives to "honor those loved ones near and far who have passed and those who are struggling due to the coronavirus pandemic."
