CHATHAM, NJ — Two vehicles were stolen, and several cars had windows smashed in recent days in Chatham, according to borough and township police.
The two stolen vehicles were left unlocked with the key fobs inside, authorities said. One was taken last week from Edgewood Drive in Chatham Township. In Chatham Borough, someone stole a BMW X4 at 3:24 p.m. Sunday from the CVS parking lot on Main Street, according to police.
Borough and township police both noted incidents in which vehicle windows were smashed. A parked car had a rear window smashed and a purse stolen at 12:14 p.m. Sunday at Centercourt Athletic Club, borough police said. Several parked cars in Chatham Township had windows smashed and property stolen, according to authorities.
Chatham Township police also noted several other incidents. Someone tried to steal a vehicle from an open garage on Fairmount Avenue last weekend, and somebody tried to steal a vehicle on Noe Avenue, police said.
Township police also investigated a suspicious vehicle that quickly fled out of town Saturday night.
Police reminded the public to lock their vehicles and to remove keys and valuables from their parked cars.
