Description

Press release from the City of Kansas City: March 31, 2022 Starting Friday, April 1, monitored alarm systems that rely on 3G cell phones will no longer be operative. The alarm will still go off, but a notification to the alarm monitoring company will not go through and the alarm company will not know it has been triggered. If the alarm activates, residents should call 9-1-1. However, the request for service should only be cancelled if the false alarm is verified before the Fire Department arrives. Some property managers and owners are already using updated systems, but other alarm system users may not know that their systems use 3G technology that is about to expire. "Businesses and property managers who have not had their systems upgraded should use fire guards to monitor their systems until they have them updated," said Deputy Fire Chief and Fire Marshal James Dean. "It is imperative in the name of public safety that they get their systems upgraded as soon as possible." If property managers or businesses with monitored alarms have questions or are unsure if their alarms are up-to-date, they should contact their monitoring company as soon as possible.
