Description

PORTLAND, OR —A woman was shot and killed early Monday morning not far from the campus of Portland State University. Later in the day, Keenan Harpole, a 20-year-old student at PSU was charged with second-degree murder-domestic violence and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center. Police say that the woman, whose name has not been released, was found dead just outside of Mak's Minimart at Southwest College Street and Southwest 6th Avenue around 1 a.m. People who heard gunshots called 911 while the alarm company that services the market also notified police that an alarm had been triggered, according to police. They add that detectives arrived after people called 911 reporting that shots had been fired. Later in the day, deputies from the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office got a call saying that Harpole was at the home of a relative in Bend and was prepared to surrender, according to police. After deputies had him in custody, they turned him over to detectives from Portland. He was booked on the domestic violence murder charge as well as unlawful use of a weapon. Portland State said that Harpole is a freshman who played on the school's football team last year. The school said that they've made counselors available for students and staff who need to talk. Police have not released any more information about the victim. Police ask anyone with information about this incident to please contact Detective Jason Koenig at [email protected] 503-823-0889 or Detective William Winters at [email protected] 503-823-0466.
