Press release from the Mecklenburg County Government: 3/29/2022 Description1 Mecklenburg County is negotiating contracts for 36 projects that will be funded with money allocated from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, or ARPA. View the list of recommended projects and see the full presentation to the Board of County Commissioners on March 15. ARPA provides relief funds to eligible state, local and tribal governments that have been negatively affected by the coronavirus.  The Treasury Department allocated $215 million in ARPA funds to Mecklenburg County. In a unanimous vote March 15, the Board of County Commissioners voted to allow County Manager Dena R. Diorio to proceed with negotiating contracts for plans that support the County's COVID-19 Strategic Recovery Plan. Of the $108 million received to date, Diorio is recommending $59.4 million is invested in 36 eligible projects. The amount includes $26.9 million for projects that align with Behavioral Health and Health Equity, $14.6 million for Parks, Environment, and Infrastructure; $8.0 million for Affordable Housing and Homelessness; $6.7 million for Workforce and Economic Development; and $3.0 million for Childcare and Early Childhood Development. Phase 2 of ARPA funds is expected in May with the application process for proposals opening in the fall. This press release was produced by the Mecklenburg County Government.
