JOHNS CREEK, GA — Interested in becoming a citizen scientist? If so, join the Fulton County Department of Public Works and the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve to become a Georgia Adopt-A-Stream volunteer. According to the county, all program participants will be trained in chemical water quality monitoring techniques. Participants will learn about basic stream water chemistry and how to conduct chemical tests in the field, the county said. "Pack a lunch, bring your boots and join us for this immersive workshop experience," the county posted to Facebook. Trainers will provide hands-on monitoring instruction in chemical modules, and participants will practice taking samples out in the field in addition to a classroom presentation. Volunteers who collect data with 10 percent accuracy and pass the written test with a score of 80 percent or better will be certified to conduct chemical monitoring. The workshop will take place at Autrey Mill Nature Preserve, which is at 9770 Autrey Mill Road in Johns Creek, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Click here to register.
