Description
My philosophy is "Everything I ever needed to know about business I learned on the sports field." From Behind The Scoreboard, I feature the sports stories that tell us much more than simply who won or lost. These personal and inspiring experiences of grade school, high school, college, other amateur and even pro athletes allow all of us to reflect a little more on what is important in life. ~ James C. Metzger, Chairman and CEO, The Whitmore Agency

Seeing Baseball With Ed Lucas
Ed Lucas loved baseball. For most of his life, though, he could not play or see the game. Blinded early in life, Ed still pursued the game. Baseball became a huge part of his life. Actually, it became his career.
When Ed left us a few months ago, his family and many friends celebrated Ed's successes in the game—radio show host, newspaper writer and a New York Emmy Award recipient for his work on the YES Network website. He knew them all—managers, coaches, players and team owners. Ed became best friends with Yankees shortstop Phil Rizzuto. He enjoyed the opening of the 1976 Yankees season with Joe DiMaggio.
Ed’s legacy is The Ed Lucas Foundation. The organization offers financial support to the blind/visually impaired and others living with a disability, encouraging them to pursue their dreams and establish their independence. These goals reflect Ed’s accomplishments and the many people who supported him at the beginning of and during his journey.
