Job Summary We are looking for a part-time gardener who wants to monitor the health of all plants and greenscapes, water, and feed plants, trim trees and shrubs, fertilize and mow lawns, weed gardens and keep green spaces and walkways clear of debris and litter. Responsibilities A primary duty is to ensure thorough daily hand-watering so that plants have the proper moisture levels. Hand watering requires constant attention to detail for several hours per day. Assists with all greenhouse team priorities and goals, including production, maintaining proper plant moisture levels, installing and maintaining seasonal displays, integrated pest management, facility sanitation, and preventative maintenance. Must be willing and able to perform required hand watering for several hours a day; co-lift 60lb bales of soil/media and large plants for interior-scape change-outs; maintain cleanliness and sanitation of greenhouse facilities including headhouse area; operate soil mixer; work from ladders to hang shade cloths, change lights, hang/maintain color baskets; apply sanitation and disinfectant products; flexible with working on a variety of projects associated with simple greenhouse facilities maintenance, and crop production. Other duties include making hose repairs as needed, weeding, planting, deadheading, pruning, transplanting, sweeping & event support. May also apply pesticides line insecticidal soaps and horticultural oils, under the supervision of a certified pesticide applicator. Minimum Qualifications Nine months of professional work experience with the responsibility for acres of grounds, a valid Maryland vehicle operator’s license required; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Preferences  This position requires the ability to problem solve, work effectively in teams and individually, and the willingness and ability to work with a variety of people.  People who enjoy gardening, working with plants, and/or desire to learn more. Prior experience in landscaping, horticulture, farming, habitat management, or botany is preferred, but not required.  Must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurability, and be able to safely and proficiently operate all equipment common to the trade;  Able to safely and effectively perform all physical tasks essential to the position and understand the physical commitment required for gardening;  Able to work safely in inclement conditions, heat, cold, precipitation, etc;  Must be able to commit to working 16-29 hrs/week.
