WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA — A DUI and driver's license checkpoint in West Hollywood netted four arrests, including one for driving under the influence of alcohol, authorities said Saturday morning.
The checkpoint was conducted on Fairfax Avenue, south of Santa Monica Boulevard, from 6 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Saturday, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
In addition to the driver arrested on suspicion of DUI, one driver was arrested for driving without a license and two drivers were arrested on other criminal charges. A vehicle was towed and one other citation was issued, the statement said. Details of the citation were not disclosed.
"The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reminds drivers that `DUI Doesn't Just Mean Booze,"' the department said. "Prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, can impair and result in a DUI. Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs."
Drivers charged with DUI can expect the impact of their arrest to be approximately $13,500, including fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension and other expenses and jail time, the LASD said.
Last year the sheriff's department investigated 395 DUI collisions that killed 21 people and injured 590 others.
