NBA Player Pleads No Contest To Lesser Charge In DUI Case

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA — Atlanta Hawks player Allen Lester Crabbe III, who was stopped last summer in West Hollywood on suspicion of DUI, pleaded no contest Thursday to a misdemeanor count of engaging in a motor vehicle exhibition of speed on a roadway. Crabbe, 27, was sentenced to three years of summary probation and ordered to complete DUI first offender and Mothers Against Drunk Driving programs. A Watson advisement also was given, stating that if Crabbe drives under the influence and a person is killed, he could be charged with murder, Deputy District Attorney Lucrecia Boado said. On June 26, Crabbe was driving in West Hollywood when he was stopped by a sheriff's deputy after allegedly showing signs of driving under the influence. He was charged in September with one misdemeanor count each of DUI and driving with a blood-alcohol content of 0.08% or higher, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Crabbe, a Los Angeles native, played college ball at UC Berkeley. He was a second-round NBA draft pick in 2013 and played for the Portland Trail Blazers and Brooklyn Nets.
