PREPARED BY: Delbert Horton                                                   SUMMARY: The Substance Abuse Technician in a CARE treatment facility interacts regularly with residents to ensure component rules, policies, and procedures are followed. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Provide on-going supervision and monitoring of the residents at all times and follow the daily schedule. Accomplishes all assigned work duties. Perform tasks within expected frames. Demonstrates ability to handle difficult situations in a professional manner with progressively less supervision. Ability to perform leadership duties in the absence of Managerial Staff or designee. Coordinate effectively with others who share responsibilities for client services including but not limited to admissions and conducting non-therapeutic groups and corresponding documentation. Transport residents to activities and special appointments and use good judgment in driving CARE vehicles. Keep facility, vehicles and all CARE properties clean and safe. Maintain boundaries between staff and residents. Develop a working knowledge of the program policies, laws, standards and procedures. Attend staff meetings as scheduled. Participate in and provide peer staff training. Completes other duties as necessary and as assigned by the managerial staff or designee. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises no employees in the component QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) plus 3 years progressively related experience. Must possess valid Florida Driver’s License with good driving record. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Possess valid Florida driver’s license.
