Description
The Retail Associate Materials is responsible for performing tasks including organizing, moving and loading plants and plant material and assisting both internal and external customers thereby assuring exceptional customer service. This position operates equipment such as trucks, forklift, bobcat and/or pallet jack to effective move, load and unload materials and plants. Essential Duties and Responsibilities -Provides exceptional customer service to Retail Garden Center customers. -Serves as a support role for greenery and nursery staff for movement of a variety of plant material, trees and shrubs. -Maintains presence of green goods area; picks up and straightens rows of plants and plant material and merchandise; maintains proper display and placement of signage as needed. -Tags and pulls sold material to appropriate holding areas. -Performs sweeping and general cleaning of green goods walkway and landscape material area. -Loads and unloads materials and supplies (requires lifting in excess of 50 pounds or more). -Assists in stocking plant material in green goods area. -Maintains health of plants in the green goods area, watering or pruning as needed to ensure quality and longevity of stock. -Operates equipment such as trucks, chainsaw, forklifts, bobcat and pallet jack. -Unloads trucks with green goods from product deliveries. -Ensures tagged product is pulled timely for delivery and/or install orders; securing necessary paperwork. -Participates in snow removal during the winter months on snow removal team (may include shoveling, salting, use of snow blower and/or other equipment). -May drive company vehicle to delivery product/material to customers as needed. -Maintains clean, organized and safe work environment. -Develops familiarity with other products and items sold through the retail garden center. -Set standards for a satisfactory company image that invites customers to repeat their business. -Follows company safety policies and procedures at all times. Working Conditions -Work is primarily performed outdoors. -May have exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including inclement weather (rain, snow, heat or cold). -The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing protection is required for duties such as -equipment operation that expose the individual to elevated noise levels. Qualifications -Valid driver’s license with good driving record is required. -A minimum of 1-3 years’ experience working in a retail setting is preferred. -Previous equipment operating experience (forklift, pallet jack, bobcat, etc.) or the ability to learn is required. Specific Requirements: -Must be at least 18 years of age or older. -Good organizational and communication skills. -Must be able to communicate effectively in English. -Forklift certification is required. Physical Requirements: -Stands and walks for long periods of time throughout the day. -Squats, stoops, or kneels and lifts objects from ground frequently. -Full extension of arms above head and in front of body. -Consistently lifts weight of up to 50 pounds. -Occasionally carries and pushes/pulls weights over 50 pounds. -Fine motor skills required for use of small equipment and hand tools.
