WATSONVILLE, CA — More than 3,900 cases of the coronavirus were reported in Watsonville as of Sunday, the most recent day for which data was available Monday. That's about 55 percent of the 7,085 COVID-19 cases that have been reported in Santa Cruz County since the beginning of the pandemic. Santa Cruz County ramped up its COVID-19 testing efforts Monday and opened a new testing site at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium (307 Church St., Santa Cruz). Watsonville's community testing site at Ramsay Park (1301 Main St., Watsonville) remains the largest testing site after it recently expanded to handle up to 330 tests per day, seven days per week, but the new Santa Cruz site can handle 165 tests per day. Appointments can be made here for both the Watsonville and Santa Cruz testing sites. Both are operated by OptumServe. Another community testing site has opened at Twin Lakes Church (2701 Cabrillo College Drive) in Aptos. The site is operated by Senneca Diagnostics and can accommodate 300 people per day, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays. Make an appointment here. People are not required to exhibit symptoms to receive a test, though patients at each site will be screened, according to the county.
