WATSONVILLE, CA — Fortune Magazine has released its annual list of the top companies in America. While Watsonville-based Granite Construction didn't place in the top 500, it still ranked and came in 712th place with $3.4 billion in revenue last year. Granite Construction was the lone Santa Cruz County company to make the cut. Fortune ranks companies by total annual revenue and, for the eighth consecutive year, Walmart topped the 2020 list, followed by Amazon and Exxon Mobil. Apple and CVS Health ranked No. 4 and No. 5, rounding out the top five spots on the list. To put the rankings in context, the 500 companies on the 2020 list make up two-thirds of the total U.S. gross domestic product. The 500 companies employ 29.2 million people worldwide.
