1,000 Plants, 15 Trees Planted In Watsonville For Wetlands Day

WATSONVILLE, CA — Volunteers planted some 1,000 plants and 15 trees at Struve Slough and Hope Park in honor of the 12th annual World Wetlands Day, The Pajaronian reported. Watsonville Wetlands Watch organized the event, which also educated volunteers about the connection between wetlands, people, animals and the environment, the paper reported. "Wetlands are the most important ecosystem we have," Executive Director Jonathan Pilch told The Pajaronian. "I think it's vital that people know that, especially to a community living so close to them." Watsonville Wetlands Watch advocates for matters related to wetlands and provides community education about the Pajaro Valley wetlands. The organization was founded in 1991 and conducts environmental restoration projects, according to its website. Struve Slough is one of five local sloughs. See photos of the event here.
