WATSONVILLE, CA — Four people were hospitalized Friday afternoon after a chain reaction collision along southbound state Highway 1 in Watsonville, the California Highway Patrol said. The wreck, involving multiple cars and a truck pulling farm equipment, happened about 1 p.m. along the highway just south of Harkins Slough. The CHP said the truck was pulling a broken disc harrow that sparked a fire and came to an emergency stop, forcing three cars behind it to stop as well. A van came up behind the cars and didn't stop, crashing into one of the vehicles and triggering the chain-reaction collision. The drivers of the three cars and the van were all hospitalized. Two drivers, a 64-year-old man from Aptos and a 23-year-old woman from Half Moon Bay, suffered major injuries. Two other drivers, a 28-year-old man and 36-year-old man, both from Watsonville, sustained moderate injuries in the crash. — Bay City News
