Press release from Pajaro Valley Unified School District: August 18, 2020 Watsonville, CA, August 17, 2020 – PVUSD Virtual Academy, the newly established school of choice at Pajaro Valley Unified School District, welcomes Jennifer Ponzio as their Principal and the District is pleased to announce Alison Niizawa as the Interim Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. These appointments were approved at the August 12 Board of Trustees meeting. Jennifer Ponzio, Principal of the Virtual Academy, has been serving students in the Gilroy and Campbell area since 2007. She taught Social Science and AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) for 11 years and has been a high school assistant principal for the past 2 years. Ms. Ponzio brings a wealth of knowledge in the areas of WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges), Restorative Justice Practices, Individual Education Plans, 504 Plans, Student Support Team (SST) meetings, and blended learning models. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies from Western Oregon University, Masters of Education with a focus on Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment from Oregon State University and credential in Educational Administrative Program from Santa Clara County Office of Education. We welcome Ms. Ponzio to PVUSD. Alison Niizawa, Interim Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, has been serving the students of PVUSD since 2004 as a Physical Education teacher at Pajaro Valley High School before stepping into an assistant principal role in 2007. She became the principal of Pajaro Valley High School in 2014 and joined the District Office team as the Director of Human Resources for Certificated Personnel in 2018. She received her Bachelors in Kinesiology, Teaching Credential and Masters in Educational Leadership from San Jose State. Ms. Niizawa brings a wealth of knowledge from her time working in PVUSD to her new role in Human Resources.
