WATSONVILLE, CA — The City of Watsonville is accepting applications from community members interested being part of the newly created Committee on Policing and Social Equity. The 12-member committee will meet for up to a year to hear community feedback, work with community organizations and develop recommendations for the City Council, the city said. Community members will serve on the committee, as will council members, the police chief, the city manager and city staff. Meetings will be public and participants can expect to spend 8 to 10 hours per month serving the committee. Community member applicants must live in the Watsonville city limits. The city said it wants to see the following characteristics in applicants: A commitment to racial equity, social and environmental justice, diversity and inclusion.The ability to work collaboratively with people of diverse perspectives and experiences.Knowledge of or experience in any of the following: in policy development, evaluation, local government and/or public sector partnerships, public safety, social and human services, human resources, public participation, service design and delivery, research, education or business.Demonstrated understanding of the systemic issues and barriers that should be examined.The ability to represent the geographic and demographic diversity of the City.
