Description

WATSONVILLE, CA — The Watsonville Police Department will have extra officers patrolling Wednesday through Sunday to look for intoxicated drivers over the Thanksgiving holiday. Police will also keep an eye out for speeding, distracted driving and driving without a seat belt, police said in a statement. The California Highway Patrol's Santa Cruz County chapter will also be stepping up enforcement for four days. "We want everyone to enjoy the holidays and be safe," Sgt. Donny Thul said in a statement. "Taking simple safety measures like driving sober, following the speed limit and wearing a seat belt helps keep yourself and others safe." The increased patrols are made possible thanks to a grant from the state Office of Traffic Safety, via the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
