BOWIE, MD — The Bowie Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, is postponing the start of the 2020 season out of concern for the new coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, according to a press release. The Baysox are making this decision in the aftermath of Major League and Minor League Baseball deciding to delay Opening Day to a later date.
"The Baysox are a valued community partner of the City of Bowie and Prince George's County, and we look forward to playing baseball during the 2020 season when it is deemed safe," the Baysox said, in the release. "We're excited to see everyone at Prince George's Stadium this year, but the health of the fans, players, staff and fellow community members are of the highest priority at this time."
Over concerns about the spread of the new coronavirus, the Baysox also postponed National Anthem Auditions scheduled for Saturday, March 14. A new audition date will be announced once one becomes available.
No timetable has been set for the start of the season and the Baysox will be providing updates as soon as possible. Fans with questions man call the Baysox Front Office at 301-805-6000.
