Description

The Lecture Featuring Educator, Designer, and Author Sam Chaltain on ‘The Future of Learning’ Join us for an eclectic, provocative April 9, 2022 lecture by Sam Chaltain on "The Future of Learning." Sam Chaltain is an educator, school designer, and author. He is a partner at 180 Studio, a global design studio with offices in America and Asia, dedicated to reorienting the way we think about learning, the future, and one another. A new world is struggling to be born. It will not emerge through the reinvention of institutions and social structures. It will not arrive solely through the reformation of policies and priorities. The world we seek depends on our ability to remember that our identity is interwoven into a living planet, and an interdependent human family…The fullness of our humanity, the sustainability of our planet, and the emergence of a better world rest within a new story of learning. Believing “the future is already here; it’s just not evenly distributed,” Sam provides a framework for remaking our schools, our workspaces, and our social structures in ways that align with the design principles of the natural world. The result is an eclectic, provocative presentation of ideas in which parallel worlds collide, and our basic understanding of our place on the planet is forever altered. About Sam ChaltainSam Chaltain is on a search for a better understanding of the future of learning — and, by extension, the future of humanity. His objective is to design human-centered physical environments that allow each person to thrive; and to curate stories and experiences that advance our understanding of how to build a better world. He was the national director of the Forum for Education and Democracy, a Washington, D.C.-based education think tank. He is also the founding director of the Five Freedoms Project, a national organization that equips local educators with leadership development, coaching and support. Chaltain earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in African American studies and history from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, a Master of Arts in American studies from the College of William & Mary, and a Master of Business Administration from George Washington University. Participate in the important questions of our time. The Lecture is a speaker series that brings people together to explore human flourishing through the lens of the humanities and civic imagination.
