MARYLAND — Four new Lidl grocery stores will open in Maryland this Wednesday. The stores will be in Brooklyn Park, Takoma Park, Timonium and Oxon Hill. These grocers are a few of the 10 that the company plans to open in Maryland. The chain currently has nine stores in the state. "It is exciting news that a fast-growing global company like Lidl is continuing to invest and offer good-paying job opportunities at a time when they are needed the most," Gov. Larry Hogan said in an August press release announcing the stores. "We welcome these new stores to our communities, and look forward to working with Lidl to ensure their continued growth and success in Maryland." (Story continues after tweet) Pleased to announce that @LidlUS will open 10 new stores and add 400 jobs in Maryland by the end of 2021. This is more good news for our economic recovery, and will help more Marylanders get back to work. After expanding around Europe, the grocer opened its first U.S. store in 2017. The chain currently has more than 100 locations in America. Though Lidl is growing, two of its North Carolina sites will close, Business Insider reports. The $500 million expansion plan calls for 50 new stores across nine east coast states. This will bring about 2,000 jobs to the region. Hogan said the forthcoming Maryland stores will create about 400 jobs in the state.
