BOWIE, MD — Police say a group minors drove a stolen golf down U.S. Route 50 Saturday afternoon. The five girls ranged in age from 15 to 16, and they were all from Washington D.C., according to an incident report. The situation unfolded around 1:30 p.m. when the Bowie Police Department answered a call for a stolen golf cart. The complaint came from the Alvista Bowie apartments, which are located in the 3600 block of Elder Oaks Boulevard. Soon after, the Maryland State Police spotted the golf cart heading west of U.S. Route 50. The state agency pulled the girls over and turned them over to Bowie police. The Bowie department charged the teenagers with motor vehicle theft before releasing them to their guardians. Police did not announce the names of the accused, which is standard policy for handling minor crimes charged to juveniles. A video showing a highway golf cart ride went viral hours after the incident. The clip has amassed more than 3 million views since it was posted on Saturday.
