LANGLEY PARK, MD — The Prince George's County Police Department said an on-duty officer struck a pedestrian while driving in Langley Park on Monday evening. The pedestrian died on the scene, the department wrote on Twitter.
On Wednesday, police identified identified the officer as Sgt. Edwin Flores. The accused officer has worked for the department for 15 years. He currently works in the Internal Affairs Division.
The incident report said Flores was driving an unmarked police vehicle west on University Boulevard. Police added that Flores was not responding to a call. Flores hit the pedestrian around 9 p.m. near University Boulevard's intersection with 15th Avenue, officers noted.
The collision happened as the pedestrian was crossing University Boulevard, the report said. Police will announce the name of the pedestrian after they notify the victim's family. Flores was not hurt in the accident.
