BOWIE, MD — Prince Goerge's County police charged a Bowie woman with murdering her aunt. The accused woman originally faced an attempted murder charge, but police upped the offense on Friday after the victim's death. An incident report said the shooting happened after an argument around 1 p.m. on Aug. 3. Soon after, the Bowie Police Department found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound in a home in the 13000 block of Youngwood Turn, the report added. Medics took the injured Bowie woman to the hospital, officers noted. Bowie police arrested the woman's niece, Shandra Lynn Bell, and issued the initial charges. The victim eventually died on Nov. 6. Police identified the deceased woman as Elizabeth McGeehan. She was 66. An autopsy said McGeehan's gunshot wound was the cause of her death. Police ruled the shooting a homicide. The Prince George's County Police Department then took over the investigation and charged McGeehan with murder. County police investigate all homicides in the City of Bowie.
