Join the Great Lakes Civility Project’s Nolan Finley and Stephen Henderson in partnership with Henry Ford College for our first all-day Civility program! Students can earn college credit, and professionals can earn CEUs, though the program is open to anyone who’d like to attend.

9 a.m. Opening Session with Nolan Finley, Stephen Henderson, Henry Ford College President Russ Kavalhuna and Professor Anthony Perry
10:15 a.m. Build civility in 1:1 conversation civility-building handout and leading questions. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in 20-minute conversations with at least 3 other people, employing the tools of civility up close.
11:30 a.m. Conversation debrief, led by Nolan Finley and Stephen Henderson
12 p.m. Lunch
12:45 p.m. The History of Dehumanization panel featuring Rabbi Eli Mayerfeld from the Zekelman Holocaust Center and Henry Ford College sociologist Dr. Kalvin Harvell
2 p.m. Why Does Politics Make Us So Mad? Putting Politics in Perspective with David Dulio, from Oakland University’s Center for Civic Engagement; Barbara L. Jones from Wayne State University’s Center for Peace and Conflict Studies; Dr. Tim Kiska, Associate Professor of Communication from University of Michigan-Dearborn; and lawyer Abed Hammoud; moderated by Prof. Anthony Perry
3 p.m. The Art of Listening with Nolan Finley, Stephen Henderson and Margaret Trimer of Delta Dental, followed by 1:1 conversations to employ the tools of active listening
4 p.m. Having Difficult Political Conversations with Rep. Fred Upton, Rep. Debbie Dingell, and Michigan Supreme Court Justices Megan Cavanagh and Beth Clement
