Saturday, April 23 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Each year, scores of groups plan a beautification project. So whatever project you select, be sure to register at this link. Once you are registered, the City's Constituent Services Office will contact you to provide items such as trash bags, yard waste bags, gloves, and trash pickers. In recent years, as many as 70 community groups – including churches, businesses, schools, and non-profit organizations – have participated by improving neighborhoods and public green spaces. Some groups focused on collecting trash and debris, while others planted flowers, updated landscaping, or started a community garden project. The deadline to register for the community clean-up is Friday April 15, so REGISTER TODAY! Mayor Purzycki urges Community Clean-Up Day participants to attend the City's Earth Day Open Streets event once they've wrapped up their Saturday morning projects. This FREE event, open to everyone from around the City, will celebrate Earth Day with the first in a series of Open Streets Wilmington events on Saturday, April 23 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Market Street from 4th to 10th Streets. Open Streets create a safe, car-free environment for residents of all ages and abilities to enjoy time outside walking, biking, and more. This six-block stretch of Market Street will be closed to vehicular traffic for this special day so residents can enjoy a healthy slate of activities with environmental education exhibitors, crafts for children, and other great things to enjoy.
