UNION CITY, CA — The Union City Police Department reports that all entrances to Union Landing shopping center have reopened.
Union City Public Works removed the barricades that had been placed at several entrances to discourage organized looting that broke out in several Bay Area communities following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis on Memorial Day. Floyd, a black man, died in police custody.
"We would like to thank our entire community for being patient while our city navigated through these difficult days," police said in a community message.
On Sunday, there were two peaceful marches, "One of the events started at Kennedy Park and concluded with speakers outside City Hall with a few hundred in attendance," police said. "The other event started at a local hotel and concluded at the Union City BART station. No problems were reported at the events."
