UNION CITY, CA — The gradual reopening of stores and restaurants is a welcome sight to Union City residents exhausted by coronavirus shelter-in-place orders. The Alameda County health department officially allowed the reopening of malls on Monday, following new guidance from the state announced last Friday by Gov. Gavin Newsom. At Union Landing, more than two dozen stores and restaurants are currently open, according to the mall. That will certainly increase in coming days as stores get staff and merchandise in place after being closed for 5 months. Stores are limited to 25-percent of capacity. Here is a list of businesses currently open at Union Landing: As for other businesses allowed to reopen in Alameda County, a few categories were allowed to reopen last Friday, but many are still shuttered. Here is the latest guidance from the health department:
