Union City Police Receive $50,000 Grant

UNION CITY, CA — The Union City Police Department received a $50,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety to be put towards reducing the number of injuries and deaths on Union City roads. The grant will be put towards efforts to reduce cases of driving under the influence, improving the community's adherence to the state's hands-free cell phone law, awareness and education of causes for crashes and accidents, community education presentations, and more. "These are trying times, and now more than ever, it is important that we are at the forefront of traffic safety," Union City Police Department Sergeant Stan Rodrigues said. The grant program, funded by the OTS through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is scheduled to run from October 1 of this year through September 31, 2021. "We are excited to partner with the California Office of Traffic Safety to provide intervention and enforcement in an effort to keep our community safe. Our goal for these interventions is both a short- and long-term reduction in fatal, serious, and overall number of collisions in Union City," said Chief Jared Rinetti.
