Patterson Mill won the class 1A girls soccer title Thursday.
The Huskies beat the Loch Raven Raiders, 1-0, in the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) state championship game.
Madison Dawson scored the lone goal off a corner kick, the Baltimore Sun reported. The junior defender told the newspaper she was elated "to finally win it" since the Huskies had made the playoffs and state finals before but this was Patterson Mill's first time bringing home the crown.
The game was at Ridley Athletic Complex, 2221 West Cold Spring Lane, Baltimore, MD 21209.
In other fall sports playoff news, Bel Air fell to Magruder at the University of Maryland's Ritchie Coliseum in the 3A girls volleyball semifinals Thursday night.
"The Bobcats held an early lead in the first set, but were outplayed from that point," Bel Air High School's head volleyball coach David Simon said. "Magruder took the early lead in set 2, and the Bel Air team fought back but could never close the gap. In set 3, the Magruder team kept the Bobcats out of system and never looked back, cruising to an easy win."
To celebrate its successful season, Bel Air volleyball will hold a year-end banquet Nov. 26.
