Harford County Snow: Schedules Modified On Thursday, December 17

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — After several inches of snow fell in Harford County, one school is delaying opening Thursday. Harford Community College is opening at 10 a.m. Thursday. No in-person classes will be held on campus before 10 a.m. Remote classes will continue as usual, unless students are otherwise notified by their instructors. John Carroll School is operating through distance learning for all students Thursday. Harford County Public Schools will provide virtual instruction as usual. Buildings and technology hubs are closed to staff, who should work virtually for the rest of the day if they can. "We understand disruptions may occur and staff are encouraged to continue to support students as best we can," Harford County Public Schools said in a statement. Public works crews in Harford County reported they were clearing snow that fell overnight and salting a layer of ice underneath Thursday morning. Harford County received 6.1 inches of snow Wednesday, according to preliminary data submitted to the National Weather Service. Due to the potential for icy roads Thursday morning, the weather service issued a hazardous weather outlook, noting sub-freezing temperatures caused water to refreeze. Temperatures in Harford County are not expected to rise above freezing until 10 or 11 a.m., based on the forecast. "Icy conditions are still possible, especially on untreated surfaces," the Maryland Transportation Authority advised after 6 a.m. "Stay alert and allow extra time for your commute IF you must travel this morning. Delay travel if you can. Be safe!"
