Please don't think that I'm a kook, because I'm not - just a very passionate dog lover. I wanted to let you know that you need to ask for at least $100 for any dog you want to re-home. Why? Because there are people (I hesitate to call them people) who cruise CL looking for "free" dogs and cats. They will profess to give your dog the most wonderful home - they've even been known to bring children with them and then they turn around and sell them to labs such as the University of Washington.
The labs are always in need of animals to experiment on. The experiments are usually extremely painful. Imagine if you will, your lovely dog locked in a cage for the rest of his life and subjected to something like oven cleaner put in his eyes or on his or her skin to see what kind of reaction he would have. Imagine the pain! How do I know this? Because my son went to the U.of W. for 4 years in pursuit of his degree and he saw first hand what they do in the labs.
There is no good reason for this, and these animals live a living hell for the rest of their lives. Please take what I say to heart and ALWAYS ask for at least $100 as payment - it would be a travesty if the dog you want to re-home, ended up in a cage so small he/she couldn't even turn around and was literally tortured until he/she died. These labs always need "fresh" animals - I wonder why? And I also wonder why in the name of everything that's holy, that this is allowed to continue, but there it is - it IS allowed to continue and more and more people need to be aware of this.
So, please ask for a re-homing fee - I know if you're reading this, that your needs have changed and you need to find a good home for him/her, but PLEASE ask at least $100 for your dog. The labs typically pay around $50 to $75 per animal so that will remove the profit motive for these cretins that do this. Thank you for taking the time to read this rather lengthy post.
