TEMECULA, CA —Elva Phillips marked her 100th birthday in grand style last week, spending a day exactly as she wished — with her granddaughter and great-granddaughter at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula. Elva's granddaughter, Robyn, called ahead to Pechanga management asking if her grandma's favorite slot machine would be available. And with that heads-up, casino staff created a "VIP section" for Elva, clearing and decorating the area around her chosen $1 Double Diamond Strike and presenting her with a "goodie bag." During the recent months of quarantine, Elva, an Orange County resident, frequently mentioned how she wanted to visit Pechanga.
