BALTIMORE, MD — An unarmed security guard was shot guarding a ballot box early Thursday morning in northeast Baltimore, according to police. Investigators think the ballot box was not the target, and the gunmen were attempting a robbery. At 4:55 a.m., police said a 24-year-old man working for a security company was shot in the 2200 block of Pinewood Avenue as he kept watch over an election ballot box. Multiple armed individuals came up to the guard's car and tried to open the door, officials said, based on surveillance footage. When the man refused, the gunmen started shooting at him, police reported. Officers called to the area for a reported shooting said they found a man with several gunshot wounds. He was hospitalized with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, investigators said. Anyone with information may call Northeast District detectives at 410-396-2444.
