MEDFORD, NY — A blaze that broke out at a car lot in Medford damaged dozens of cars early Friday morning. The fire broke out at a car lot on Peconic Avenue just before 2 a.m., damaging between 40 and 45 vehicles and the cause is under investigation, Suffolk police said. Arson Section detectives are investigating, according to police. Firefighters from the Medford Fire Department were alerted to a reported brush fire near Jamaica Avenue and Clusterpine Street, at about 1:45 a.m., officials said on the department's — Facebook page. "First responding units observed a large fire in the vicinity of Peconic Avenue and re-activation was requested for a full department response,"the post continued. The blaze drew firefighters from the Yaphank, North Patchogue, and Farmingville fire departents. The Town of Brookhaven fire marshal is also investigating, according to the fire department. A fire also brush fire broke out on Saturday along the Long Island Expressway, just east of Exit 64. No injuries were reported in either fire.
