Description
Middletown, CT: For a second year, Russell Library is running a Library Giving Day campaign to raise funds that will benefit the entire community. Last year's campaign raised over $10,000.
Library Giving Day was conceived by the Seattle Public Library Foundation in 2019 to grow philanthropic support for libraries across the nation as part of National Library Week. National Library Week runs April 3-9, 2022, and Library Giving Day falls on April 6. Incidentally, Russell Library opened its doors to the public on April 5, 1875, so this is a remarkably celebratory occasion for Middletown!
On Library Giving Day, people are encouraged to support their local library by making a donation. In 2021 Russell Library received 198 donations ranging from $5 to $500, which collectively funded our new Digital Conversion Studio. The Digital Conversion Studio consists of equipment that enables people to preserve old photographs and home videos in electronic formats that can be easily accessed and shared. Donors are invited to attend its opening on April 6 on Russell Library's second floor. Thereafter, the equipment will be available by reservation during the library's regular operating hours. Russell Library is open to the public mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends.
"We were astounded by the outpouring of support during last year's Library Giving Day campaign," says Director Ramona Burkey. "Our donors' generosity funded this incredibly meaningful service, which will allow our community to preserve cherished memories for generations to come. We look forward to the next big project our benefactors will make possible!"To donate, visit russelllibrary.org/giving/, mail checks to 123 Broad Street Middletown CT 06457, or swing by to drop off your contribution.
