Press release from the City of Louisville: March 30, 2022 Event designed to educate the community regarding legal matters after a loved one passes Louisville – Councilwoman Donna Purvis (D-5) is hosting an Estate Clinic on Saturday morning, April 2, at the Shawnee Golf Course Club House. The councilwoman is encouraging the District 5 community to attend this educational event and learn about handling legal matters tied to the loss of a loved one. Councilwoman Purvis is partnering with two family attorneys, Nichole T. Compton and Tracy E. Davis, to provide expert advice at the clinic. Councilwoman Purvis understands the pain and stress that comes with losing a family member, and she hopes this Estate Clinic will help others navigate the overwhelming and confusing legal issues that can unknowingly arise after someone passes. "When my mom died, I was devastated and did not realize the extent of handling her estate," said Councilwoman Purvis. "Because of this, I overlooked the fact that she had a Homestead exemption on her property that gave her a tax discount. Since her death, I paid the taxes billed without realizing the discount given. I have since paid the difference, but I want others to know that even though a loss is painful, it's important to remain focused on the business needs of death." The Estate Clinic will be held at the Shawnee Golf Course Club House, located at 460 Northwestern Pkwy., from 9:00-11:00 a.m. There is no need to register for this event.
