Removing aesthetic texture from a ceiling or completely replacing it.

I'm not sure if scraping the texture off or completely removing the ceiling and replacing it with new drywall would be easier. The area is about 440 square feet and is on the first floor, so if removal is the best option then there will be no falling insulation to contend with. Also there are no registers in the ceiling and I'll remove the light fixtures myself. Thanks.
