City of Portland, Maine MAINTENANCE WORKER II-SOLID WASTE Public Works Department - Solid Waste Division – Up to $2,500 Sign On Bonus Available – Schedule is Monday thru Friday from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM – The Public Works Department is seeking a qualified applicant to join our team. Successful applicant must be able to work holidays and some Saturday’s and when called in for winter operations. Requirements: demonstrate the ability to operate and maintain Solid Waste equipment including rubbish packers, recycling trucks, roll-off trucks. Must also have ability to operate and maintain winter equipment including dump trucks and front-end loaders as required. Applicants must possess good visual acuity for driving and physical strength, agility and stamina necessary to withstand exposure to adverse climatic conditions; must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and members of the public; must possess valid Maine Class B driver’s license (must provide license number); must pass pre-employment medical exam and fitness assessment and pass federally mandated drug test; must have and maintain good driving record. Offers of employment are contingent upon completion of satisfactory criminal background check. Labor & Trades – Grade 17 - $811.20/week – 6-month step, plus $1.00 per hour market rate stipend for CDL license. May be willing to hire the right applicant with Class C license at Grade 16 and help to obtain Class B license within six (6) month probationary period.
