Description

NOT exclusively metal, but some prog eclecticism. NOT country, but I assume we all like American music to some degree- I'm interested in SOME folk/blues, but not unplugged/acoustic driven. NOT today's pop, tho I love today's indie rock- I'm 52yo but I primarily listen to players who are under 35yo who play psych/shoegaze/alternative rock. I grew up on the same ZLX dinosaur rock as most of you- it's a foundation, but the world continued to evolve. I was in my 20's for that grunge media-blitz; now Sub-Pop has a store in airports. Now "alternative music" is as misrepresented as the word "conservative". (not surprisingly by the same people, mostly) I'm NOT interested in a cover band. I don't like Tool, AIC, STP and I'm not in the slightest influenced by Metallica. I don't do bro-screamo, and I don't find anxiety to be the only basis for artistic expression. We're all crazy- it's ok to write about it. Let it out to HELP yourself, but you must have some other mood, don't you? At the same time, I'm not interested in backing up a girl (or guy for that matter) folk singer who only plays 3 chords and doesn't rock out at least a little bit. For guitar, I use Fender amps (meaning, I like non-distortion tones), mostly, and I like effects. I write tons of music- I would love to meet a lyricist who enjoys real alternative rock and other music. I would love to find a drummer who listens to some black artists- not exclusively, it's just....(sigh)......my distaste for metal developed from the depressing terminal whiteness of double-kick pedals, stomp beats and inability to jam or general lack of funkiness the metal lovers I've played with have. To some up, I'm looking for: -Psych/space-rock/alternative rock/indie band who needs guitar/keys or bass -lyricist who's not primarily influenced by mass-market pop culture -rhythm section open to instrumentals or basic rock formats to make our own unique sounding music -people willing to get together regularly to workshop riffs and have fun building songs, motifs, jams and recording them (every time I suggest this "blues-rock dads and grand dads" respond. Please stop) Goals: Writing and recording fun, INTERESTING music is THE goal. Performing is something you do when you're proud of the music you have to offer. I'm not driven to play "rock-star dad" on the amateur circuit, but inevitably, the goal of playing out is what many need to drive themselves to make the music, so I get that. I have a day job. I have wheels and I live in a quiet suburb just north of Boston. I DO have a basement space. It's not ideal, but it's equipped with a PA, amps and drums. It's available to mature, vaccinated, non-smoking, non-derelicts who can find time around the typical family hours in this bedroom community. I'm quite familiar with Brighton, Framingham, Malden's SUM, Lowell/Chelmsford's spaces and the Jam spots as well. I'm NOT interested in people who- - don't live in this century, culturally/musically - who do hard drugs or generally don't have their life in order - who are going to respond without telling me where they live, what they can offer musically, what their musical goals are - people who think using formulas/ templates to make audiences happy is a necessary recipe for writing music We'll talk about where to meet to play, weeknights/ weekends....once/week? Twice?
