ANNAPOLIS, MD — The 8th annual Annapolis Film Festival will feature more than 70 films from two dozen countries March 26-29 with screenings at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, Annapolis Elementary School, St. John's College and Asbury United Methodist Church. This year's festival theme, Focus Forward, explores uplifting topics and stories that relate to the future of the local community and the world, and highlights the upcoming 10 year anniversary of the festival. "For the 2020 Annapolis Film Festival, we've selected inspirational stories - stories that bring us together, that are hopeful, that have a silver lining," said Lee Anderson, festival director and AFF co-founder in a statement. Films have been selected from all around the world including the best of independent American cinema as well as local films from Maryland. International films will be shown from Hungary, France, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Zambia, Norway, UK, Israel, Ukraine, Ireland, Tunisia, Romania, Iran, Canada, Australia, Armenia, Switzerland, Sweden, China and Spain. The film festival has both juried and audience awards and will show narrative and documentary films, shorts and student films. Showcases each year include the Environmental Showcase, the African-American Experience, the Jewish Experience, a Diversity Series with LGBTQ films and sailing and military-themed films. The festival's Spotlight films that play in prime time weekend slots will consist of many not yet released films coming just off of Sundance Film Festival and South By Southwest. Tickets go on sale March 3. A premium pass will be available for those who wish to attend three parties with filmmakers and industry guests.
